International Biathlon Union announces competition calendars until 2022

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has published its competition calendars for the seasons 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 for the federation’s three biathlon series: the BMW IBU World Cup, the IBU Cup and the IBU Junior Cup. The calendar is compiled according to the principle that events are only awarded to countries which had a WADA Code-compliant national anti-doping agency during the bidding process, as established by the IBU Congress.

IBU President Olle Dahlin said:

“We are delighted to have completed the competition calendar for the new Olympic cycle. This calendar reflects the growing number of high-standard biathlon venues in many countries across the globe. For the season 2020/21 and 2021/2022 the IBU has awarded events to no less than 17 countries.”

IBU Sports Director Felix Bitterling commented:

“Drafting competition calendars is always a balancing act between choosing the best venues from the applications and at the same time reducing travel times for the teams as much as possible. Our goal is to guarantee high-class events with the well-established Organizing Committees as well as to develop additional organizers together with the repsective National Federations. Thus, there are two new venues in the World Cup calendar with Otepää (EST) and Minsk-Raubichi (BLR) and the venues of Haanja (EST) and Madona (LAT) will host an IBU Junior Cup for the first time. We have also boosted reactivated hosts by awarding the Open European Championships 2022 to Arber (GER) and the Youth and Junior World Championships to Soldier Hollow (USA).”
