IBU renders verdicts on two Russian biathletes

Salzburg, 25 June 2019: The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has issued its decision in the cases of Russian biathletes Mr Alexandr Pechenkin and Mr Alexander Chernyshov, who were suspected of doping based on analysis of the Moscow Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) database.​

The IBU has rendered the following decision on Alexandr Pechenkin:

• Mr Alexandr Pechenkin shall be declared ineligible because of an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) under aggravating circumstances (participating in an organised doping scheme) as set forth in Article 2.2 (“use”) and Article 10.6 of the IBU Anti-Doping Rules in their 2012 version for a period of four (4) years, beginning on the date of the Decision (21 June 2019), against which the period of provisional suspension imposed on Mr Alexandr Pechenkin on 5 November 2018 shall be credited.

• Mr Alexandr Pechenkin’s competitive results obtained from 7 January 2012 to 6 January 2016 shall be disqualified with all of the resulting consequences, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes as set forth in Article 10.8 of the IBU Anti-Doping Rules in their 2012 version.

• Mr Alexandr Pechenkin shall bear his own costs and expenses relating to these proceedings.

The IBU has rendered the following decision on Alexander Chernyshov:

• Mr Alexander Chernyshov shall be declared ineligible because of an anti-doping rule violation (ADRV) under aggravating circumstances (participating in an organised doping scheme) as set forth in Article 2.2 (“use”) and Article 10.6 of the IBU Anti-Doping Rules in their 2012 version for a period of four (4) years, beginning on the date of the Decision (21 June 2019).

• Mr Alexander Chernyshov’s competitive results obtained since 17 July 2014 shall be disqualified with all of the resulting consequences, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes as set forth in Article 10.8 of the IBU Anti-Doping Rules in their 2012 version.

• Mr Alexander Chernyshov shall bear his own costs and expenses relating to these proceedings.

Both athletes have 21 days to appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
